Urban Decay: The Derelict Spreepark Plänterwald Amusement Park
Oct 13, 2009 by Derek in InspirationThis theme park is in East Berlin, Germany, and opened in 1969 – providing millions of people each year with countless hours of fun and good times. The Ferris Wheel itself was a landmark in the area. All the memories are now overgrown with weeds and given to the elements. See more of Oliver Schade’s photographs of the Spreepark Plänterwald amusement park.

Weekend Wallpapers: 15 Great Apple Wallpapers
Oct 10, 2009 by Derek in WallpaperPixellica is published from a Macintosh laptop (somewhat like a portable office) – over the years I’ve been using a Mac, I’ve had several Apple-themed wallpapers. Granted, tracking them all down again was time consuming (and ones I couldn’t find I’ve uploaded on Pixellica), but here’re 15 of the best Apple wallpapers to dress up your Mac. Or PC.
Time Stands Still: 13 Amazing Living Statues
Oct 09, 2009 by Derek in InspirationStreet acts are as varied as the people that perform them – Three Card Monte, Juggling, Singing (even hawking cheap Rolexes if that’s your thing). These performers take their art very seriously and dedicate hours to locking their knees and elbows and not moving – or at least moving a claymation-style stop and start fashion. Some are very realistic.
Focus on Artist Erik Johansson of AlltEllerInget.com
Oct 08, 2009 by Derek in Focus, PhotoshopSwedish-based photographer & digital manipulator Erik Johansson cites painters Dali, Magritte, as well as Escher and Rob Gonsalves as his sources of inspiration, and the inspiration is evident. However Erik puts his own unique angle on abstract art – and accomplishes it seamlessly. Erik pulls it off so perfectly, the only thing standing in the way of their believability is common sense.
Building With Bricks: Lego™ Sculpture
Oct 07, 2009 by Derek in InspirationWhen I was little, I played with Legos – I had (well, still have) Legos from the Space, Castle, Train, Pirate and even Technic branches. The sets never lasted in original form and always morphed into elaborate projects of my own. But Andrew Lipson and Nathan Sawaya take building with Legos to a whole new level.
The Unconventional Artwork of Scott Wade
Oct 06, 2009 by Derek in Focus, InspirationExpression rears its head in so many forms it’s impossible to count – but most often, it’s in some form we can keep, or at least that’s publicly appreciable. Ice sculpture melts within a few hours but is eye-catching and sparkly; sidewalk art from the likes of Julian Beever just washes away with the next rain but can be loved by throngs of people who walk by. Scott Wade has neither of these luxuries.

If you have any link that inspires your muse, please send it in and keep the weekly feature interesting!
15 Breathtaking Photographs of Jelly Fish
Oct 05, 2009 by Derek in InspirationSometimes we work so hard to produce something colourful and graceful in Photoshop. The marvelous creation around us does it naturally – and unwittingly. Jelly Fish are a prime example of “look but don’t touch” and Pixellica presents a collection of 15 examples that highlight the grace and colour of these untouchable beauties.
